Common Emergencies We Treat

🦷

Severe Toothache

Persistent, throbbing pain that doesn't go away with medication often indicates an infection or abscess.

💥

Broken or Chipped Tooth

Save any pieces of the tooth if possible. We can often bond it back or restore it with a crown.

🩸

Knocked-Out Tooth

Time is critical. Keep the tooth moist (in milk or cheek) and get to our office within 1 hour for the best chance of saving it.

🦠

Abscess & Infection

Swelling in the gums or face is a serious medical emergency. Do not ignore it; the infection can spread.

👑

Lost Filling or Crown

Exposed tooth tissue can be painful and sensitive to temperature. We can replace the restoration quickly.

🔧

Orthodontic Emergencies

Broken wires or loose brackets from braces that are causing pain or cutting your cheek.

What To Do Before You Arrive

What to do for a severe toothache?

Rinse your mouth with warm water. Use dental floss to remove any lodged food. Take over-the-counter pain medication (Tylenol/Advil) but do not place aspirin directly on the gums. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek if there is swelling.

What if my tooth is knocked out?

Hold the tooth by the crown (top), not the root. Rinse it gently with water if dirty, but do not scrub. Try to reinsert it into the socket. If that's not possible, keep it in a cup of milk or inside your cheek. Call us immediately.

Should I go to the ER or the Dentist?

For toothaches, broken teeth, or lost crowns, see a dentist. Go to the ER if you have severe facial swelling that impacts breathing, trauma to the head/neck, or uncontrollable bleeding.
